I graduated from West Chester University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. After graduation, I married my best friend and decided to go back to school to pursue my certification to teach Kindergarten through eighth grade. I taught 5th grade for a few years until son #1 was born. I took one look at his cute little face and decided to be a stay-at-home mom. It was hard. It still is hard. I’m still home. But, now I have four little cute faces to look at. Three boys and our baby girl.
I pretty much run after kids all day and all evening as we have just entered the season of life where I’m not just a mom, but a taxi driver as well. However, I love it, though there are days I want to lock myself in my closet and cry into a bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream…or a bag of chips. Totally depends on my mood.
I’ve been creating stories since I was young but never wrote them down until after the birth of son #2. My girlfriend came to visit and see the baby. I remember sitting on the couch telling her I wanted to try writing one of the stories that had been floating around in my head. After a few minutes of her listening to my excuses on why I couldn’t write them she said, “Just shut up and write the darn story.” And, so it began. I’ve been writing ever since (and trying to shut up my inner critic).
I used to write at nap time. Sadly, all the kiddos are finished with napping (let’s all take a moment of silence, please). Now, I write when and where I can. A few moments here. A few moments there. Some late nights. Thankfully, my kids love pizza and think I’m awesome when I say we’re eating Cheerios for dinner if I forget to make it due to my characters not leaving me alone.
A few other random things about me: I sing with my local community choir and started out as a voice major at WCU before switching majors. When I’m not writing, or chasing/driving kids, you can find me singing and dancing (and yes, I’m not ashamed to say I still use my hairbrush as a microphone…). I sing to my kids all the time, even when their friends are over. They love it. I’m scared of squirrels and snakes. I love owls and wolves. When I was little I wanted to be a pirate and be on broadway. I love fantasy and historical movies. I’ve been with my wonderful husband since I was 18 years old. My family and friends are my everything. And, one of my favorite quotes is this: “Go after a dream that is destined to fail without divine intervention.” ~author unknown
